Palpa Durbar & Museum

Tansen Durbar, also known as Palpa Durbar & Museum, is a historical palace and museum in Palpa, Nepal. It was built in 1927 by Pratap Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana. The Durbar is a grand palace in the town of Tansen and served as the seat of the Rana governors during the Rana rule in Nepal.

The palace was destroyed in 2005 by Maoists during the Nepal Civil War and was later rebuilt and reopened in 2008.

Today, Tansen Durbar not only captivates visitors with its architectural splendor but also serves as a museum, showcasing a diverse collection of historical artifacts. Visitors can explore cultural treasures like traditional dresses representing various religions of Nepal, ancient military weapons, and a fascinating exhibit on the evolution of Nepalese currency and that of other countries. The museum offers a wealth of historic items, each telling a story about Nepal’s cultural heritage and its socio-political past.
